International English Language Testing System
Are you planning to study or train abroad? Are you applying to an institution and need to prove your level of English? Do you need to raise your standard of English? Then we can help you with an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test.
WHAT IS IELTS?
The international English language testing system (IELTS) is the world’s leading English language proficiency test, taken by over 1.7 million people each year.
IELTS assesses all of your English skills — reading, writing, listening and speaking, and is designed to reflect how you will use English at study, at work, and at play, where English is the language of communication
Over 7,000 organisations worldwide, including schools, universities, employers, immigration authorities and professional bodies recognise IELTS scores as a trusted and valid indicator of ability to communicate in English.
IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations
WHERE IS IELTS RECOGNISED?
IELTS is accepted by most UK, Australian, Canadian and New Zealand academic institutions. In the United States it is widely recognised as an alternative to TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language).
WHAT TYPE OF IELTS SHOULD YOU TAKE?
IELTS has two versions - Academic or General - you can choose the version that is best for your needs. There are two kinds of reading and writing test - called modules. Both modules are held at the same time and in the same room as the listening and speaking test. When you register, you need to choose the module you want to take. Academic module - normally taken when applying for higher education or study abroad, or by doctors doing the PLAB test. The General Training module - is normally taken when applying for immigration to New Zealand, Australia or Canada.
WHAT DOES THE TEST INVOLVE?
Usually, tests are taken in our centres. Sometimes, you may need to take the test elsewhere - we will let you know in advance before the test if this happens.
Tests usually begin at 0900. You will take the Listening, Reading and Writing papers together. The Writing and Reading papers last for 60 minutes and the Listening paper takes about 30 minutes.
The Speaking test is taken separately or on the same day, and lasts for about 15 minutes. WHEN AND HOW WILL YOU RECEIVE YOUR RESULTS?
You will receive your results 13 days after your exam date by courier.
Results will be returned to you as a Test Report Form. There is no pass or fail mark. Scores are given on a band scale of one to nine (with one being a non-user and nine being an expert user of the English language).
